The Early Learning Centre (ELC) development is close to finalisation with the scheduled completion date being 6 October 2014.
It was an amazing sight at the War Memorial Oval on Monday 8 September when more than 600 students, teachers and staff made an attempt at the Guinness World Record for the most participants in a beep test.

We were delighted to welcome Dr Keith Suter as our guest speaker at this year’s Webber Lecture which was held on Wednesday 27 August 2014. The Webber Lecture is an annual address delivered by a leading presenter whose topic is always one of ethics.
We were very fortunate to have a visit from old boy Sam Forbes (’05) at Headmaster's Assembly. Sam is our 22nd Rhodes Scholar and yesterday addressed the Middle and Senior School students and challenged them to take advantage of all of the opportunities they have.
On August 19, we celebrated Book Week in style at our P–6 Book Week Assembly. The official Book Week theme “Connect to Reading, Reading to Connect” was well-represented by staff and students dressing up as their favourite book characters and parading across the stage with their books on display.
The School’s 168th birthday has been celebrated in true Hutchins style with a myriad of events for our community to celebrate.
Congratulations to Hutchins Old Boy, Hamish Peacock, who won bronze in the Javelin at the Commonwealth games overnight with a throw of 81.75m.
On Wednesday 2 July 2014, the Year 8 Debating Team, of Alex Hall, Chisomo Banzi, Isaac Traill defeated New Town High School to become the Tasmanian Debating Union Champions for 2014. The team also comprised of Harvey Chilcott, Liam Mead and Koh Kawaguchi all of whom were instrumental in achieving a place in the Grand Final.
