Paul Wyatt wins 2012 ADCO Etchells Australiasian Winter Championship
Congratulations to Old Boy Paul Wyatt (’87) who has won the 2012 ADCO Etchells Australasian Winter Championship held at Mooloolaba in Queensland on Sunday 10 June.
First time skipper Matthew Chew, Paul and fellow crew members Ashley Deeks and Brian Donavan were ecstatic to take out the championship as a newly formed crew. “Being a new crew it’s an even sweeter victory as we have had to gel pretty quickly” says Matthew. It was a great result for the Gen XY crew, despite finishing in 16th place in Race 5 which they were able to drop after weather conditions prevented the final race from going ahead.
Paul has now won all three of these important Etchell regattas, adding to his long list of sailing achievements.
Competing since the age of 8, Paul first sailed on the Derwent River in Sabot racing. He reached is lifelong dream in 1992 when he sailed in an America’s Cup and then went on to compete in his first World Championship in 1996 in Spain. After a well-earned break from professional yachting, Paul moved to Brisbane in 2000 and started racing again in 2006 in F40‘s, Etchell’s and F30’s with great success.
