2019 Leavers’ Luncheon and HSOBA Young Alumni Award presented to Nick Andrewartha (’06)
On Thursday 31 October the 2019 Leavers’ Luncheon was held in Burbury House where the Year 12 students were welcomed as Hutchins Old Boys. The boys are encouraged to stay connected no matter what their future brings and to continue to live within the values of The Hutchins School, being grateful for all of the opportunities, friendships and education that the school has and will provide.
Mr Barrie Irons, President of The Hutchins School Old Boys’ Association, presented Nick Andrewartha (’06) with the 2019 HSOBA Young Alumni Award. This award recognises Hutchins Alumni in the early–mid stage of their careers who have made a significant achievement in their chosen field of endeavour. The HSOBA and leavers of 2019 have selected Nick as the winner of this award for his work in the area of Mental Health Awareness, which is an important cause to this year group, having spent the year raising awareness and implementing programs around the school to improve the stigma around mental health issues in young men.
Nick’s personal battles with anxiety and depression after leaving school led him to start ‘The Other Side’ a company designed to help others reach their potential and change the stigma surrounding masculinity. Nick is also currently working with Impact Communities where he coordinates a youth social enterprise called Troublesmiths, helping vulnerable youth in Tasmania find their feet, and get their life heading in the right direction.
Nick addressed the boys about how he overcame his mental health issues, how he started up these companies and his mission to breed a new generation of emotionally resilient young men. He also passed on some words of wisdom which he wished he had known when he was leaving school. Thank you Nick for attending and being such an inspiration for our Leavers of 2019.
