Australian Schools Team Racing Championship
During the July school holidays Hutchins was 1 of 24 teams competing in the Australian Schools Teams Racing Championship in Blairgowrie on the Mornington Peninsula. This exciting format of racing brings a 3-on-3 dynamic to what is seen as a very individual sport.
The team was comprised of Samuel King (Year 12, Captain), Nicholas Smart (Year 11, Vice-Captain), Will Cooper (Year 11), Charles Zeeman (Year 10), Howard Tapping (Year 9), Christopher Eyre (Year 8), Oliver Hugo (Year 8) and Charlie Salmon (Year 7) and was coached by Hutchins Old Boy and 2018 Australian Sailing Tasmania Coach of the Year Elliot Noye (’09). The team battled hard over the five day competition, qualifying 4th after the round robin for the top eight final series. Strong winds halted the start of the finals for 4 hours until they race committee deemed it safe to start racing again. Although the team finished 5th in the finals it goes to show what a strong competition it was as all top 8 teams had won and lost to each other in the round robin series. I would like to formally congratulate and thank the team on their efforts and the way they represented Hutchins on and off the water in such a positive manner.
Thanks goes to the families of the boys that either came over to the event or followed closely from home as well as former Headmaster Mr Warwick Dean that came down to cheer on and support the team.
