The Hutchins School Old Boys’ Association unveiled the ‘Hutchins Lion’ which is a posthumous award given to honour an Old Boy who has excelled in his chosen field of endeavour. This year Denis Warner was ‘lionised’. Denis commenced at Hutchins as a boarder in 1928 and started his journalism career as a copy boy at The Mercury in the 1930s.
Denis spent almost six decades reporting the conflicts in Asia and Asia’s rise and is considered to be one of the most enduring and influential figures in postwar journalism. We were thrilled that Denis’s children Nick and Annabel were able to join us for this historic occasion.
