Walk out of the Shadows and Freezin’ for a Reason
On Friday 18 September, over 80 Senior School students and staff participated in Walk out of the Shadows and Freezin’ for a Reason. At sunrise, boys gathered at School to begin Walk out of the Shadows, walking down to the Sandy Bay Sailing Club for Lifeline to raise awareness for World Suicide Prevention Day. Even though Lifeline was unable to host an official event, Thorold House thought it was important to raise awareness for this cause, especially during the tough times caused by COVID-19. Boys then participated in Freezin’ for a Reason, spending five minutes in the freezing cold water to raise awareness for the Hobart Women’s Shelter (Year 12’s chosen charity). Money raised from this event and the free dress day will be split between the Hobart Women’s Shelter and Lifeline.
Boys were then rewarded with fresh egg and bacon rolls and coffee and hot chocolates thanks to Mr Paul Bonnitcha. Thank you to the students that organised this event, staff for their assistance and to Vermey’s Quality Meats, Banjos Sandy Bay, Alliance Catering and Tas Fresh for donating supplies for breakfast this morning. Your generosity is greatly appreciated!
From Thursday 24 to Friday 25 September, Year 12 will be hosting their Run-a-thon to raise money and further awareness for the Hobart Women’s Shelter, running for 12 hours overnight at the War Memorial Oval.
