The Last Daughter screening
On Wednesday 26 July, we warmly welcomed Aunty Brenda Matthews to Hutchins to share her very personal story to discover the truth about her past, to unite her two families – and to foster a broader connection between black and white Australia. It’s a story full of heartbreak, love and hope, one that shows a way forward for all Australians.
Across two screenings of The Last Daughter documentary our students and wider community had the opportunity to learn about Aunty Brenda’s journey and were invited to an open Q&A with Aunty Brenda along with book signing.
It was an amazing opportunity to learn, foster empathy, raise awareness and promote understanding of First Nations peoples experiences. Moreover, it encouraged attendees to engage in meaningful discussions about our shared history and diverse culture.
