Special notice from the Headmaster regarding the Royal Commission hearing
Dear School Community,
The Hutchins School and Anglican Diocese of Tasmania will appear at a public hearing of the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse in Hobart in November.
The hearing will examine historical allegations of sexual assault in the 1960s and the School and Diocese's response to those allegations since that time.
The Hutchins School and the Diocese will co-operate fully with the Royal Commission and are committed to assisting the Commission.
The historical allegations relate to former headmaster David Lawrence (1960-1970) and former teacher Lyndon Hickman (1942-1949 & 1964-1965), both deceased.
The Hutchins School has been aware of allegations and has sought to deal with them in the past.
The School now has comprehensive policies and procedures to deal with such matters.
Warwick Dean, Headmaster
