Mother’s Day Breakfast
The Hutchins School Mother’s Day Breakfast was held on Friday 8 May 2015 in Burbury House and was a fundraiser for Make-A-Wish-Australia. It was once again a sell-out event with over 200 mothers, grandmothers, special friends, staff and students attending. The breakfast is an important part of The Hutchins School calendar and provides a wonderful opportunity for this special group of the Hutchins community to be celebrated.
This year our guest speaker was Robyn Moore, a highly entertaining, inspiring and thought provoking presenter who captivated the audience. With her funny and at times emotional stories, she has changed the lives of people from all sectors, ages and walks of life. Well-known as the voice of ‘Blinky Bill’, she is also a National Patron of Make-A-Wish Australia. Robyn related many wonderful heart warming stories of the incredible work this organisation does for young people in need.
Each member of the audience was able to connect and relate to Robyn’s message, which was uplifting, emotional and humorous as she shared part of her life journey with us. Robyn’s underlying message was life will be challenging, it is hard and at times not fair, but it is during these times when you grow.
Robyn encouraged mothers to:
- Have the ability to laugh – find laughter in the face of adversity, and laugh at ourselves
- Be optimistic – do everything as if it were for the first time
- Remain passionate – ensure our lives are “urgency before the emergency”, jump in boots and all to pull out the best in yourself
She shared an old Irish saying that resonated with the audience – “if you want to climb over a wall, throw your hat over first, this will ensure you are totally committed”.
The breakfast was once again a wonderful success, with thanks to our Prefects and the Community Relations team for their organisation and to the Burbury House catering staff for the magnificent spread.
