International Women’s Day Dinner
On Tuesday 8 March, Year 12 students from Hutchins, Collegiate and Fahan were invited to celebrate International Women’s Day at a special sit-down dinner in the Hutchins Senior School Quad with all funds raised going to support The Grace Tame Foundation.
Students heard from special guest speaker, Kate McIntosh, who asked the audience to imagine a gender equal world and encouraged all the students to consider a career in STEAM and engineering. Kate is a Pavement Engineer with over 20 years’ experience working in consulting in the fields of civil, geo technical and pavement engineering. Her project experience spans Tasmania, Victoria, New South Wales, Western Australia and the Philippines. Kate is a Chartered Engineer, a Fellow of Engineers Australia and was recently appointed to the role of Associate with GHD. She is passionate about engineering and hopes to be a role model to others, with the aim to better promote careers in engineering and to encourage diversity in the engineering workforce.
The night also featured an incredible musical performance from Flightway and three International Women’s Day inspired quizzes. Each quiz was hosted by Hutchins, Collegiate and Fahan Year 12 leaders with many great prizes on offer from Zambrero, the Tasmanian JackJumpers and Happi Studios.
The event was a fantastic evening for all students to come together and celebrate International Women’s Day. Congratulations to all Year 12 leaders for hosting a wonderful night, the Year 11 student volunteers and to all the sponsors for their support.
A special thank you to Bream Creek Dairy, Gert and Ted gourmet catering, the Giannis Family, Happi Studios, Reward Hospitality, Rhubarb Catering, Smolt Kitchen, Tasmanian JackJumpers and Zambrero.
