Intercultural soccer match
On Friday 29 November we welcomed Migrant Resource Centre Tasmania back to Hutchins for our second intercultural soccer match.
Jefferson Roy-Chowdhury, Jeremie Messmer and Daniel Sypkes (all Year 12) alongside other members of the Round Square committee, have worked closely with the youth group at MRC and Reclink Australia to encourage multiculturalism in society this year and this event has been a great opportunity to reconnect.
Jefferson writes “Following the success of our first match earlier this year, a group of boys from Multicultural Youth Tasmania returned to verse a team of Hutchins students from Years 9 to 12 in a friendly soccer match, before bonding over a delicious Eritrean lunch catered by the visitors.
As a Round Square school, Hutchins embraces the Round Square IDEALS of internationalism, democracy, leadership and service, which have been a great foundation for our work with Reclink Australia as the School’s chosen charity this year.
We would like to thank Migrant Resource Centre Tasmania and Reclink Australia for forming a wonderful partnership with us this year, in which a simple soccer match has allowed our boys to form relationships that break down so many barriers.”
