Hutchins student and teacher awarded top prizes by Study Tasmania
A Hutchins student and teacher have been awarded top prizes by Study Tasmania for their contribution to international-mindedness in their school and wider communities.
2013 Leaver Ikhwan Sallih has been awarded the Study Tasmania International Student of the Year Award and Staff Member Xiao Zhang was given the International Education Award.
The Awards were recently presented at a special presentation at the Office of The Hon. Nick McKim, Minister for Education.
We congratulate Ikhwan and Xiao on this magnificent achievement.
Below is an extract from Ikhwan’s submission to Study Tasmania on Ikhwan’s behalf written by Director of Boarding Mr Justin Bowman-Shaw.
Ikhwan has made a fantastic contribution to the Hutchins’ Community throughout the year. He has got involved in a wide range of activities and events, from school and club sports (including coaching) to helping out with the organisation of school-related community events such as the Anniversary lunch and dinner. He has represented and promoted the school to the wider community by volunteering his time for Open Days and the Tasmanian Boarding Schools’ Fair. As a member of the International Student Representative Council, he has helped to integrate new students into the school community, and his character is such that he is always building bridges between the different groups that make up the community, both internally and externally.
Ikhwan always leads by example, his effervescent, infectious enthusiasm serving to inspire and energise others, particularly within the Boarding House environment. Overall, he has been a fantastic advocate and example of the benefits of a strong International programme within Tasmania.
