Freezin’ for a Reason for The Smith Family
On Friday 30 August 2019 members of The Hutchins Senior School community joined together to make a difference for our 2019 chosen charity, The Smith Family, by Freezin’ for a Reason at Nutgrove Beach.
Freezin’ for a Reason began as a Lion’s Club initiative and has become an annual event on The Hutchins Senior School calendar as we use it as a means to draw attention to those causes dear to us. This year our support of The Smith Family has seen our boys involved in the Student2Student Reading Program, initiate discussions for involvement in an academic mentoring program as well as holding numerous events, both fundraising and awareness raising, with a focus on community service and being mindful of the positive impact we can have on others, particularly for individuals from a disadvantaged background.
In Friday’s Freezin’ for a Reason, by braving the cold, 70 students showed by their actions that they care. Participation in the event cost $10 and all money raised goes toward our total Smith Family fundraising over this year. Boys were rewarded for their chilly efforts with a warm egg and bacon roll and hot drink when they exited the water. Many thanks to the Sandy Bay Sailing Club for the use of their wonderful venue, and to our generous supporters Banjos, Vermey’s Quality Meats and Hutchins Alliance Catering whose support enabled us to cover the cost of the breakfast and pass on all funds raised to The Smith Family.
