COVID-19 update #8 from the Headmaster
Following Friday’s announcement by the Prime Minister of a three-step plan to a COVID-safe Australia, the Premier provided a timeline for the easing of restrictions in Tasmania. This timeline included a phased return for students to Tasmanian schools as follows:
- 25 May 2020 – Kindergarten to Year 6 and Years 11 and 12 students to return to learning at school. Year 7–10 students will continue to learn from home.
- 9 June 2020 – Students in Years 7–10 to return to learning at school
As we look forward to welcoming the boys back to classes at Hutchins on the dates outlined above by the Premier of Tasmania, it is important we remain vigilant in observing personal and community health care including personal hygiene, physical distancing and government restrictions related to local travel and gatherings. This includes current advice that all students able to learn from home should do so until the return to school dates. In the interim, the current school based supervision arrangements for students unable to learn from home will remain in place. The safety of our students, staff and families remains our highest priority.
Our Senior Leadership Team will meet on Monday 11 May to plan for the safe return of students to school and I will communicate all arrangements with you as soon as planning is finalised.
The situation regarding COVID-19 continues to evolve and we are monitoring advice from health authorities and the State and Federal governments as it becomes available.
Thank you for your ongoing cooperation and understanding together with your efforts to keep our community safe.
Dr Rob McEwan
Headmaster
