City of Hobart Eisteddfod
Our Hutchins students achieved some incredible results in the recent City of Hobart Eisteddfod. The Eisteddfod offers a wide range of performance opportunities in classical and contemporary singing, choirs, piano, drums, horns, violins and many other instruments, bands and drama performances.
This year, The Hutchins School was represented in many categories from individual performers to some of our larger ensembles. There were many successful individual performers throughout the Eisteddfod, as well as Special Awards which were given after the competition concluded.
We would like to congratulate Sheng-Yuan Lynch (Year 12) for winning the Open Pianoforte Recital Award, the Open Pianoforte Concerto Award, the Lady Cross Trophy, the Dr Geoffrey Lancaster AO Award, the Adjudicator’s Choice Trophy, the Frances Underwood Award for Musicianship and the Joan Salmon Memorial JS Bach Award.
The following ensembles received these Special Awards, in addition to winning their sections:
- The Hutchins School Chamber Ensemble was awarded the Australian Strings Association of Tasmania Award for the most promising string ensemble.
- The Hutchins School Barbershop was awarded the Melody Lane Singers Adjudicator’s Choice Trophy for the best choir or vocal group.
- The Hutchins School Senior Vocal Ensemble was awarded the Rowallan Trophy for the best performance by a choir or vocal group Year 12 and under.
Congratulations to all the students who performed in the various sections in the Eisteddfod and to their families and staff for their support.
