Book Week 2023
With the theme of ‘Read. Grow. Inspire.’, ELC and Junior School students spent Book Week engaged in several reading and book appreciation experiences. A particular highlight was the pop-up reading, with over 24 pop-up readers (Senior School students and staff from across the School) volunteering their time to visit ELC and Junior School classes to share stories with our young students. Students also enjoyed the announcement of the Hutchins Choice Awards, which were shared alongside the official CBCA Book Week winners.
On Wednesday 23 August, the Great Book Swap was held. There were many generous donations and books sold, raising over $400 for the Indigenous Literacy Foundation who do wonderful work supporting reading in remote Indigenous communities around Australia.
On Thursday 24 August, as part of the Book Week celebrations, Prep and Year 1 students visited Fahan School, where they enjoyed sitting in the beautiful gardens listening to the Early Childhood shortlisted stories read by Year 6 Fahan students.
On Friday 25 August, a small group of Years 2–7 students visited The Hobart Bookshop to select new books to purchase for the library. Students were very thoughtful in their choices, considering what all members of the ELC and Junior School community would like to read.
Thank you to all the staff who have visited the ELC and Junior School classrooms to read, thank you to Miss Anna Davidson for her efforts in putting together such a fun timetable this week and thank you to all of the parents and carers who guided and helped inspire some incredible costumes!
