Book Week 2022
During Book Week, held 20–26 August, we had the greatest pleasure watching our ELC and Junior School students celebrating all things books! Mrs Anna Davidson created a fun filled week to spark every student’s imagination and continue to inspire our eager readers.
Our Book Week Parade showcased just how creative Pre-Kindergarten to Year 5 students can be! We saw everything from Harry Potter, Where’s Wally, Steve Jobs, and dinosaurs, all the way through to Dumbledores! Some students had hand sewn their own costumes and some had chosen auto-biographies of their favourite sport stars. It was wonderful to see the variety of books these year levels are reading.
‘Dreaming with your eyes open’ is this year’s Book Week theme celebrating Australian Children’s books, authors, and illustrators. Our Junior School students were given the opportunity to contribute to a wall mural throughout Art classes and the results were very impressive!
Specky Magee, a best-selling children’s book by Felicia Arena and AFL legend Gary Lyon, about a teenager aspiring to become an AFL superstar, inspired some ‘Specky’s’ of our own in the Auditorium. Mr Dean Eddington guided students step-by-step through how to safely mark a football and land on large mats.
Of course, the Stephens Library has been set up with all the short listed and medal winning books this year from the Children’s Book Council of Australia for every student to enjoy.
Thank you to all the staff who have visited the ELC and Junior School classrooms to read, thank you to Mrs Davidson for her monumental effort putting together such a fun Book Week timetable and thank you to all the parents and carers who no doubt guided and helped inspire some incredible costumes!
