Best-selling author inspires students
On Tuesday 19 June, The Hutchins School was lucky enough to host best-selling author of The Inheritance Cycle series, Christopher Paolini for a talk, Q&A session and book-signing in the Terence Butler Auditorium. Hutchins students from Years 5 to 7 attended, as well as eager Senior School students and our much-loved lion, Roary. In addition, we welcomed around 800 other students from a number of other Hobart schools.
As a young author, Christopher was able to engage with the students on their own level and understand the nature of their reading. As a young man of 28 who has authored a best-selling four-part series, Christopher also provides our students with a very positive role model. The Inheritance Cycle is an incredibly popular series, with a readership that spans a range of age groups; allowing us to offer the visit to more students.
As a Librarian, it is exciting to see this style of writing as it engages the students. Meeting Christopher in person also encourages the students’ own love of reading and increases their literary knowledge. We would like to acknowledge Dymocks Hobart and Random House Australia for sponsoring the event.

The visit received coverage in the Mercury newspaper, as an article in the paper and an extended online feature.
