ANZAC spirit in Hutchins Turkish exchange
Hutchins students recently hosted students from the Istanbul Lisesi school in Turkey as part of the “Tears of Gallipoli” student exchange program jointly conducted with Collegiate.
The program aims to recognise, maintain and grow connections between Tasmanian students from Hutchins and Collegiate and the Turkish students, and to remember the spirit of the ANZACs.
Turkish students and their host students from Hutchins and Collegiate took part in a number of cultural activities based around ANZAC Day, culminating in both host and visiting students attending the ANZAC Day Dawn Service and marching in the ANZAC Day Parade.
The exchange program received local coverage on ABC News, as well as national coverage as part of the ABC’s live coverage of ANZAC Day services and parades around the country.
During their visit, students were also given a taste of Tasmanian history, wildlife and scenery – enjoying visits to Bonorong Park and Port Arthur, as well as being treated to a Tasman Island Eco Cruise.
The Turkish students’ visit follows a two week trip by Hutchins students to Turkey in March. Our students experienced highlights such as the Grand Bazaar, Museums, Dardanels, Gallipoli, Canakkale as well as a trip to Ancient Troy.
