This week The Hutchins School proudly celebrated its 175th anniversary with many exciting community events. Following our 175 Gala Dinner on Saturday 31 July, Anniversary Day started with a service at St David’s Cathedral for Middle and Senior School students, staff and families where Anniversary Ties were presented to a group of Year 12 students. This was followed by lunch for students in the Quad where ‘Happy Birthday’ was sung and the cake was cut to celebrate the School’s birthday. This day also marked the official opening of our new Middle School extension – the Chris Rae Building where staff and students gathered with special guests to congratulate and thank Chris for everything he has done and continues to do for our community. Representatives from the Hutchins School Parents’ Association and the Old Boys’ Association, executive and current long-serving staff gathered for a cocktail event at Government House hosted by Her Excellency the Honourable Barbara Baker AC, Governor of Tasmania on the evening of Anniversary Day to top off a very busy and exciting day of celebrations.

Our Junior School students celebrated with an Anniversary Service on Wednesday 4 August where Archie Lowe (Pre-Kindergarten) and Jack Hankin (Year 6), the youngest and eldest student in the Junior School cut the cake with Mr Barrie Irons, President of the Hutchins School Old Boys’ Association.

Thank you to all staff, students, performers and families for their efforts in making this a spectacular week of celebrations for our community.
